About the Website
The IPM Institute maintains this site as a member of the pest control
products committee of the School
Pesticide Reform Coalition.
The Coalition supports IPM as a program of prevention, monitoring and control that offers the opportunity to eliminate or drastically reduce hazardous pesticide use in schools. IPM
uses cultural, mechanical, biological and other non-toxic practices with least hazardous chemicals as a last resort, if at all.
The committee's mission is to source and
provide information on pest control options for those working in schools and other sensitive
environments. To complete this mission, the committee developed a
set of criteria to evaluate pest control
methods and products, with input from Coalition members and others.
Evaluated options are then placed in specific categories, by pest,
depending on how they satisfy the criteria.
The committee meets regularly to review new
pest control options and update current lists. These web pages are
maintained by the staff at the IPM Institute of North America, a member of
the coalition.
Committee members include Carolyn Cox,
M.S., Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides; Philip Dickey,
Ph.D., Washington Toxics Coalition; Thomas Green, Ph.D., IPM Institute of
North America; John Knight, Safer Pest Control Project; and Kagan Owens,
